Jehovah’s Witness Rules About Dress and Grooming

Jehovah’s Witnesses are given strict rules when it comes to dressing and grooming. Clothing and attire are regulated at meetings and conventions and in the individual’s personal life.

With regards to dressing and grooming, Jehovah’s Witnesses are not allowed to:

Jehovah’s Witnesses are not allowed to wear a beard

According to their publications, Jehovah’s Witnesses in most countries and cultures aren’t allowed to have beards because they say beards are associated with extremism or rebels against society. For Jehovah’s Witnesses, “bearded members can be a matter of disturbance to the congregation and can stumble fellow congregants”. If congregants are “stumbled” by a member’s beard, they will be expected to shave “for the sake of the conscience of others”.

If the individual does not comply, he will likely face extreme social pressure and criticism from freinds. family and other members of the congregation for not adhering to the direction of the elders.

Wear long hair if you are a man

Jehovah’s witnesses believe that “if a man has long hair, it is a dishonor to him”.

Jehovah’s Witnesses are diected to maintain distinct gender presentations. They discourage clothing or styles blurring gender lines, as it contradicts their interpretation of God’s design for masculinity and femininity.

They direct members to dress in ways clearly identifying their gender, reinforcing traditional gender norms and roles.

“One congregation finally had to remove a youthful minister from its list of available speakers because each time he was assigned to conduct a public meeting in a neighboring congregation, a complaint came back about his unusually long hair. Repeated admonition had failed to correct the young man’s viewpoint.

Keep Making Straight Paths for Your Feet, w69 2/15 pp. 112-118
” … we will select the matter of a man or a boy wearing long, poorly groomed hair. Perhaps you like that style and wear your hair that way, and one of the brothers has suggested that it would be appropriate to have your hair cut and wear it more neatly. You could ask, ‘Do I wear the style because I think it makes my appearance better, or is it because of the people with whom I associate? Are these people associates in the congregation, or in the outside world?

“God is not pleased with styles of dress that feminize men, that make women look like men, or that make it hard to see the difference between men and women.”

Have any piercings if you are a man.

“Despite their popularity among celebrities, body piercings and earrings for men have thus far failed to gain general acceptance in the West. One reason may be that these have long been the hallmark of prison inmates, motorcycle gangs, punk rockers, and members of the homosexual sadomasochistic subculture. For many, body piercing has the connotation of deviance and rebellion. A number view it as shocking, repugnant.– What About Body Piercing?, g00 3/22 p. 13

Have tattoos.

Wear anything other than business attire to meetings.

Wear fitted, revealing, or provocative clothes

“avoid wearing clothing that is tight-fitting, revealing, or sexually provocative. That would rule out wearing clothing that exposes or accentuates…”

Jehovah’s Witness Rules About Sex and Dating

  • Jehovah’s Witnesses are not allowed to spend the night in the same house with a person of the opposite sex or a known homosexual if the person is of the same sex.
  • Jehovah’s Witnesses are forbidden from masturbating.
  • May not engage in “Passion-arousing heavy petting or caressing of breasts”

Jehovah’s Witnesses are especially strict when it comes to sex and dating. Dating is only allowed with the intention to get married and only allowed when the person is of legal age, referred to by Jehovah’s Witnesses as the “bloom of youth.” (See: Watchtower Online Library. “Questions From Readers: What does the Bible say about the ‘bloom of youth’?.”)

Even as adults, Jehovah’s Witnesses couples who are dating are forbidden from being alone and require a chaperone at all times, even in public. Homosexuality is forbidden and is subject to severe punishment. But that’s not even the tip of the iceberg.

here is a brief list of things Jehovah’s Witnesses are not allowed to do when it comes to sex and dating:

Jehovah’s Witnesses are not allowed to spend the night in the same house with a person of the opposite sex or a known homosexual if the person is of the same sex.

If such a situation is brought to the attention of the elders in a Jehovah’s Witnesses congregation, the person may be counseled on the matter, potentially leading to serious consequences such as disfellowshipping.

WHAT IS DISFELLOWSHIPPING? Disfellowshipped individuals are shunned by the community, including friends and often family who are Jehovah’s Witnesses. This means no social interaction unless it’s essential, such as some necessary family communication.

“Listed below are offenses that may require review by a judicial committee … 11. Evidence (testified to by at least two witnesses) that the accused stayed all night in the same house with a person of the opposite sex (or in the same house with a known homosexual).

Page 58-61, Elders Manual: “Shepherd the Flock of God”

Jehovah’s Witnesses are forbidden from masturbating.

“mentally deranged people are notorious masturbators. Somewhat similarly, The Bremerton Sun (Washington) states that many mentally disturbed priests and nuns are chronic masturbators.

Watchtower Study Article: “Breaking Free of Self-Abuse” w73 9/15 p. 566

Jehovah’s Witnesses view masturbation as a form of sexual immorality. If the elders discover an individuals habit of masturbation, and doesn’t stop, the elders will consider this a serious sin that is grounds for disfellowshipping.

They are further taught that masturbation leads to homosexuality, and that mentally deranged people are notorius masturbators.

Read: “Mentally deranged people are notorious masturbators” and other Jehovah’s Witness quotes about masturbation.

May not engage in “Passion-arousing heavy petting or caressing of breasts”

Engage in “Passion-arousing heavy petting or caressing of breasts” out of wedlock.“13. Gross uncleanness, uncleanness with greediness … When one practices uncleanness to a gross, or serious degree, it can be grounds for disfellowshipping… 14. gross uncleanness may be involved in the following … Passion-arousing heavy petting or caressing of breasts…”

Page 63, Elders Manual: “Shepherd the Flock of God”

Jehovah’s Witnesses are directed to abstain from any form of sexual activity before marriage, including actions uch as “passion-arousing heavy petting” or caressing of breasts.

If a Jehovah’s Witness engages in such activities outside of marriage and this becomes known to the elders in the congregation, the individual will be called into a meeting with the elders to be questioned and councelled. If the person doesn’t demonstrate repentance or a desire to change they could be disfellowshipped.

Date anyone other than another Jehovah’s Witness.

If the elders in the congregation become aware of the relationship, they might counsel the individual, explaining the potential spiritual risks of dating a non-believer. They would likely encourage the person to consider the organization’s teachings about dating and marriage.

if the person continues in the relationship against the counsel of the elders and it’s seen as a deliberate disregard for the organization’s teachings, they might face more formal disciplinary action such as disfellowshipping and shunning.

Go on a date without the supervision of a reputable chaperone.

If a Jehovah’s Witness chooses to go on a date without a chaperone, despite counsel from the elders, it could potentially lead to a number of consequences within the congregation.

The individual’s behavior will be seen as brazen conduct or a deliberate disregard for the organization’s direction, leading to formal disciplinary action. This could include public or private reproof, or disfellowshipping and shunning.

Separate or divorce, unless there is proven adultery.

Engage in any homosexual activity or accept the homosexual behavior of others.

Jehovah’s Witness Rules About Eating, Drinking, and Smoking

While Jehovah’s Witnesses do not allow getting drunk, Jehovah’s Witness culture revolves heavily around eating and drinking. Getting drunk on numerous occasions can land you in trouble, but, in my experience, this behavior doesn’t seem to be as heavily policed as other less serious rules.

Overeating is supposedly a sin according to their Bible but is rarely disciplined, despite obesity being common among the group.

With regards to eating, drinking, and smoking, Jehovah’s Witnesses are not allowed to:

  • Use tobacco, sell tobacco, or work for a tobacco company.
  • Use a vape, hookah, etc.
  • Eat anything that contains blood products, such as black pudding.

Jehovah’s Witness Rules About Charities

Jehovah’s Witnesses are taught that the primary mission should be to help people spiritually, not materially. The leadership clearly states that members should not give the impression that the organization cannot assist any person materially.

Jehovah’s Witnesses are not allowed to volunteer their time or donate funds to other churches, and any spare time and money are expected to be given to the Watchtower Society,

Jehovah’s Witnesses are not allowed to:

  • Donate to other churches/charities.

  • Clink glasses and say cheers.
  • Make a toast.
  • Practice yoga or attend meditation classes.
  • Engage in any so-called extreme sports such as bungee jumping or sky diving.

Jehovah’s Witness Rules About Medicine

Jehovah’s Witnesses are not allowed to:

  • Receive a blood transfusion, even in a life-threatening medical emergency.
  • Donate blood.
  • Receive artificial insemination using any semen other than their husbands. Using semen that’s not the husband’s is an offense equal to adultery. For an unmarried woman to undergo artificial insemination is considered fornication.
  • Donate sperm cells or eggs.
  • Be a surrogate.

Jehovah’s Witness Rules About Psychology

Jehovah’s Witnesses are not allowed to:

  • Undergo hypnosis, whether it is for medical, psychological, or entertainment purposes.

  • Read or share any information that is critical of the group.
  • Question or reject any Jehovah’s Witness teachings or beliefs.
  • Stop attending door-to-door service or meetings.
  • Withhold any information about so-called “wrongdoing” from the elders. In fact, there is a requirement to confess any transgression committed by yourself or others to the elders. Failure to do so will result in disciplinary action.
  • Question or challenge the leadership, including the elders, but especially the Governing Body.

Jehovah’s Witness Rules About Secrecy

Jehovah’s Witnesses are not allowed to:

  • Report child sex abuse committed by another Jehovah’s Witness to the police without first establishing guilt to the elders by providing two eyewitnesses.
  • Report child sex abuse cases committed by another Jehovah’s Witness to the police when not required by law.

  • Apply for a divorce without proving to the elders that their spouse is guilty of adultery.
  • Remarry, unless they were granted a “scriptural divorce” by the elders on the basis of adultery, or if their spouse is dead.

Jehovah’s Witness Rules About Former Members

Jehovah’s Witnesses are not allowed to:

  • Associate with apostates (Those who have willfully left the religion).
  • Associate with a disfellowshipped or disassociated individual, whether they are family or not.

Jehovah’s Witness Rules About Self-Defense and Firearms

Jehovah’s Witnesses are directed that they “will rely on Jehovah and not try to defend themselves“. Members of the group are expected to be raped, tortured, and murdered before using a weapon for self-defense. This is exactly what happened in Malawi in the ’70s when Jehovah’s Witnesses were systematically massacred because their organization did not allow them to purchase a card indicating endorsement of the Malawi Congress Party.

Essentially, Jehovah’s Witnesses are expected to martyr themselves in the name of the Watchtower and Bible Tract Society of New York. When it comes to firearms and self-defense, Jehovah’s Witnesses are not allowed to:

  • Own or carry any weapon or firearm for self-defense.
  • Perform any job that involves the use or carrying of a firearm.

    Jesus is the creator!
    Satan is everywhere.
Satan will one day be eliminated!

    1. Since jehovah’s witnesses cannot celebrate holidays , like 4th of July, would it be permissible for them to take an empty hot dog or hamburger bun and fill it with the ass gravy of the governing body and eat that ?

    2. God is nothing! Just a big nothing burger!

Jesus is dust and created nothing!

There is no satan, just your own unchecked evil!

Someday the evil of willful ignorance and self-righteousness of people like you will be eliminated and then we can save mankind.

YHVH killed 2,476,633 people NOT including the FLOOD-where he CLAIMED to kill everything that draweth breath OR Sodom and Gomorrah. Satan killed 10 in the Book of Job and they came back to life in the last chapter of Job. So in John 8:44 jesus is ONLY talking about YHVH who was a LIAR AND MURDERER FROM THE BEGINNING.

      1. You are correct. I have spoken to some who believe that the serpent in the garden actually represented the true God (Not Jehovah). And Jehovah was a jealous and possessive God who was holding humans captive.

Jesus’ comments in John 8:44 was a wake-up call for me. The scribes and Pharisees were worshipping Jehovah, and Jesus literally told them that the god they serve was a liar from the beginning and a murderer.

        Interesting stuff!

        1. I’d like you to complete a reading comprehension test, because it’s really quite concerning that John 8:44 is clearly not speaking about God, I mean for one, it refers to this “father” as a “he” and not “He”, this is extremely important when looking at references to God. He is clearly talking about the fact that these humans’ “father” “leader” is the Devil, and not God, as it says in John 8:42 “If God was your father you would love me”.

There is a clear differentiation between the two, you just have to read all of it to understand something so simple a 10 year old can figure it out.

    4. As a Hebrew reading Bible scholar, me. I wonder if you’ve even read the bible. In the Old Testament that God figure killed 2,476,633 humans. That does not include Sodom or Gomorrah as the Bible has no numbers on those two genocides. Satan who you seem to think you know something about only killed 10. And only at your God’s prompting in the first two pages of the Book of Job. People like you or what’s wrong with Christianity.

      1. and yet every knee will bow and acclaim him as Lord, (Ph.) and he will reconcile all to him, (Co.) and all will saved. (1 Tim.) and justified (Ro.) My friend, while you dwell upon death, I will rejoice that all be be vivified. (1 Cor,)

        1. That poster is NOT a Biblical scholar, and has NOT read the Bible, and has NOT learned Hebrew. I have met that type before. He is an obnoxious atheist who pretends to have read the Bible (as all cool atheist have done it), but only repeats what he has heard other atheists say online. He is also known as a failed abortion.

The specific number is most likely from this video, or some similar source. The video states that only those instances in the Bible where a specific number was given are included.

A real scholar would know that Satan is not found in the book of Job. If you read Job, and Satan is mentioned, you are reading a mistranslation. The Hebrew word (I have actually studied Hebrew, but I don’t claim to know Hebrew, as I have only scratched the surface, yet) used is “hasatan”, which is not a name, but a common noun (and “common noun” is a linguistic term that refers to nouns like “cat”, “house”, “water”, etc., as opposed to “proper nouns”, like “John”, “Mary”, “God”, “Satan”, etc.), which means “the opposer” or something along those lines. The “ha-” prefix is the definite article “the”.

The book of Job also makes it explicitly clear that it is God specifically that is tormenting Job. The unnamed servant of God referred to as “the opposer” is just doing God’s work. Thus that “10” should be added to God’s number.

Also, Job’s children didn’t come back at the end of the book. Job got 10 new kids, that were more beautiful than the first ones … or at least his three new daughters were extremely beautiful. Let’s forget about the average looking daughters that God killed with the help of his opposer-angel.

He does have a point about John 8:44, though. The first lie in the Bible is when God tells Adam that the fruit is poisonous, even though God knows the fruit is a source of knowledge. God is essentially telling Adam, “Google is dangerous! Don’t use it, or you will die!”

The first murderer some might, if they realize that God never killed Adam and Eve, say was Cain, but I say it might have been God in the flood. Cain killed Abel, right, but that can be excused by the fact that Abel was a psychopath and a danger to the community, including to Cain’s children. Abel was after all the inventor of killing, as he had mauled innocent sheep. If Abel had such a depraved mind as to invent the slaughter of animals, what might he then do to humans!

Any real scholar would also know that a concordance doesn’t give the meaning of words. The job of a concordance is to tell where in the Bible each word is used, and how it is translated in each case. It is not the job of the concordance to judge whether a translation is correct or not. To look up the meaning of a word, you use a dictionary, not a concordance. Sure, a concordance may be used to figure out its meaning, but that’s through reading the word in context in Hebrew. The English translation is irrelevant.

But sure, I looked the word “howah” up in The Hebrew and Aramaic Lexicon of the Old Testament (HALOT), an actual dictionary, and it says “disaster”. It also mentions that the related Ugaritic word “hwt” means “spell, curse”.

However, it is not clear what kind of grammar one should employ to get “yehowah” from “howah”. You can’t just ad a strange syllable and expect it to reflect a real etymology. “ye” is used in verbs with singular third person subjects, but “howah” is not a verb. HALOT does list two verbs with the consonants “hwh”, with two meanings each, giving four meanings in total: 1. to fall, snow, 2. to fall on someone, 3. to become, 4. to lie, stay lying down. None of them refers to “disaster” (which is a noun). If I interpret the dictionary correctly, “to become” has the form “howeh” and not “howah”.

It is possible that the failed abortion is suggesting that the initial “Je” in “Jehovah” is just some added consonant that is fake, but the “ye”, which it is in Hebrew, is really there.

It is correct that the letter “J” doesn’t exist in Hebrew. But neither does the letter “A”, or the letter “B”, or the letter “C”, or the letters “D”, “E”, “F”, “G”, etc. Letters are the specific shapes written in an alphabet. Consonants and vowels, on the other hand, are something pronounced. The offender in this case is a consonant that phoneticians refer to as a voiced postalveolar affricate, the way “G” is pronounced in “George” in English. That sound doesn’t exist in Hebrew or Greek. But Biblical Hebrew, at the time the Old Testament was written, didn’t have the voiced labiodental fricative, either, which is what is usually written “v”. I was charitable and took his “hovah” as “howah”, but I felt I wanted to point that out as well.

As for being a failed abortion, there is never too late for a second attempt.

          1. Jesus Christ but you are delusional. Satan is on the first page of the Book of Job you dummy. Also the invisible angel that appeared to Balaam appeared in the Hebrew as a Satan to Balaam. And the word simply means adversary accuser competitor. The only liar and murderer in the entire God damn Bible is the god figure yahweh. And yes any fool knows there’s no W in hebrew. The damn Jews own everything that goes into your mind and the Jews today aren’t even of the tribe of Judah so quit being stupid. People like you are what’s wrong with the world.

          2. You rude little ignorant twit. I not only know Hebrew but I studied the book three to six to 12 hours a day everyday for 7 years straight before I discovered the source books that the Jews plagiarized to write most of the old testament. The Old Testament was written during the Babylonian captivity of the sixth Century BC and the lost tribes of Israel, and remember Jesus said I have come only for the lost sheep of the house of israel, have been missing since 722 BC so that country today called Israel is nothing more than a God dam Rothschild business. You are a real idiot. I bet you don’t even know what IQ stands for.

          3. You called me a failed abortion, go f*** yourself you little twit. Eat s*** and die. Or give me your address and I’ll end you. Piece of s*** mother f*****

        2. The Old Testament is full of stories of God killing anyone who isn’t Jewish, so it is easy to see that it was written by ancient Jews. The Gospels don’t seem to fit into the Bible at all, unless you ignore most of the Old Testament. By that I mean the actions and message of Jesus don’t seem to follow on from the books in the O.T., apart from the prophesy of a Messiah. The personality of the Father described by Jesus doesn’t seem anything like the violent god of the O.T. I know Jesus told us that he was like the Father, but he didn’t act or speak like the god of the O.T. In a nutshell, Jesus was a nice guy, but the god of the O.T. wasn’t. The only explanation I can suggest is that the god of the O.T. reflects the personality of the writers of the O.T. Sorry for the ramble, but I have spent a lifetime trying to make sense of the Bible, and I can’t. And one other thing, the Book of Revelation is anything but!

          1. Hi Phil!
The reason the people died was not because they were not Jewish but because there was uncontrolled and unfathomable sin. Such wickedness was to an extent that He did not want His creation to suffer anymore. This is who God is in the Old Testament. In Exodus 34:6 Moses asked the same thing and God showed him an incredible thing. His response was “The LORD, the LORD God, is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in loving devotion and faithfulness, 7 maintaining loving devotion to a thousand generations, a forgiving iniquity, transgression, and sin. It’s frustrating to feel like you want answers and they don’t come. My experience has been when I have asked and keep asking like my life depended on it, He answered! Blessings Phil! I pray God will show Himself and His marvelous love to you.
****One reason for the difference in the Old and New Testament was the translation. Translation of the Old Testament was Hebrew and the New Testament was from Greek and Aramaic. ****

        3. If you take the Bible seriously, which I don’t. It was written over thousands of years by people who believed different things. In the OT Jehovah was a warrior God. In the NT it was about love and tolerance. The Bible writers try to smash the two together. But I agree. Big J has a higher body count. Satan was not even thought of as Satan as we think of him until the NT.

        4. Perhaps better than defining evil one’s self, ask Christians to list behaviors they use to identify evil. Chances are they will include such behaviors as murder and genocide, animal and human sacrifice, torture, child abuse, animal abuse, theft, slavery, rape, incest, cannibalism, betrayal and lying. And if asked about personality traits, they will likely mention megalomania, sociopathy, narcissism, etc. Their God claims to hate such behaviors. Yet their God is guilty of committing, ordering and/or condoning all the above behaviors.

        5. The OT is basically a copy of the Sumerian Tablets that were written thousands of years before the Hebrew Scriptures. The Levi priest copied and compiled the content of became the OT in 587 BCE while in captivity. This is when they came up with the idea on One God. Monotheism was born with a God named Yahweh (Jehovah). The “Elohim” (which means gods) of Genesis and the OT scriptures were a higher more advanced alien civilization. They were viewed and worshipped as “gods” because of their superior technology and knowledge. One of their chief gods was named “‘Enlil”. Enlil was pure evil and is actually the one referred to by the god Yahweh.

The New Testament is made up only of the books that the Catholic Church authorized. (Red Flag) They and others have also changed the wordings of scriptures to fit their doctrines and ideology. Some of the scriptures are still accurate but many are not. Other books like the book of Enoch and the book of Thomas were left out because they did not fit with the church’s thinking.

        6. All that studying and your translation is still very literal. Very few things in the Bible are ever literal. I’m sure even now there are Scholars that keep studying the original manuscripts that still exists and even they know most of what they’re reading isn’t literal. I don’t know Hebrew and I never read the manuscripts myself and even I know that much, which means you haven’t fully finished translating.

        7. This entire article is completely false. Strictly a hype. Only three things listed are true. No blood is true. No holidays is true.and Modest clothes of all styles and pants or shorts or anything … so this is all garbage that I read

      2. A lot of this seems to be outdated. Where are you getting your information from? Have you changed things that are no longer accurate? There are definitely a lot of ridiculous things that are still true though.

        1. I’m not saying a lot of it isn’t still true, but rules change slightly every year. The facial hair one is outdated. I explain myself in my first few comments….which should be somewhere near the bottom of this list. I’m not going to type it again, just wanted to leave my opinion on here like everyone else.

      3. Are JWs supposed to (or allowed to) go to my back door, through my gated back yard, if I don’t answer the front door? This recently happened to me and it really alarmed me. Looking out my window to see a strange man in my back yard shook me up!

    1. ok,,so this extensive list above is not explaining bible principles behind them and a lot of things are left up to witnesses to decide as they choose to follow the bible and are feeling/thinking it is a good protection or higher wisdom
I chose to be a witness after studying a long time and gradually understanding the reasons to follow the bible and how it would benefit my life-yet it is NOT EASY and one cannot be brainwashed-they “choose w/free will to adhere to anything they decide for themselves is bible truth that will benefit them and others.

      1. Not true. The majority of the above-listed “offenses” are subject to disciplinary action. In most cases, this comes in the form of a judicial hearing, likely to end in disfellowshipping, where the offender’s family will be required to shun them and cut them off. Under those conditions, free will is impossible. Good for you that follow these rules voluntarily, but most do so in fear of shunning.

        1. Like I said on an earlier comment: the list is outdated. The majority of those things you put as “offenses” are no longer considered that. Many of those things are now overlooked or have loopholes to them if you look hard enough for them. When I was a kid, loopholes were all I looked for when it came to every aspect of being a JW. “If you don’t look, you won’t find” even the Bible says that, but it also apples to the Bible itself when looking for such loopholes.
It has ALWAYS been voluntary. After all there’s no rules against anyone showing up or not to the meetings and everyone here at one point or another VOLUNTARILY showed up to one weather they were once JW or not. It was their choice. Same applies to our opinions here, we chose to write them or not. Most of those “rules” have loosened up a bit since the 80’s or 90’s. Just like times that are changing, so is the religion. Anyone going to a meeting now would see a difference between 10-15 years ago.

      2. You obviously haven’t been a Witness for very long. Give it time. You’ll eventually see the hypocrisy that you are actively defending. I was born and raised in the Organization. I personally thank God daily for leading me towards a path that allowed me to see what a cult they are. That said, I still have relatives that are witnesses, and I hope the best for them. They seem happy enough and that’s good enough. Do I think they are brainwashed? Well, I think they belong to a religion that gives them very little say in what they can and can not believe, so yes, I believe there is some brainwashing there. It’s a religion that basically says you have to believe what the elders teach you, if you question those teachings to any extent you will be reprimanded up to possibly being disfellowshipped. You won’t be able to speak with your friends and family. You won’t be allowed a chance to speak for yourself or defend yourself publically. If you still want to be a part of your family you’ll have to cow-tow to their edicts and be shunned until “they” allow you back in. So let me restate that…yes, it is a brainwashing cult!

      3. I would like to add (as a defector and still Christian), many items on the list are abstained by many Christian churches. Some of them were counted illegal in many states until recently. Some of them are absolutely spot on as an exclusive practice within this organization. Brain washing is real, the NWT has been “modified” for the agenda. Most accept love this org. because of the initial sense of being accepted whatever your circumstances. Any of the “cult” members (myself included previously) will NEVER accept being misled and demonizing anyone who speaks out of the faith. If you are a Christian and adhere to Christ, as a believer you will find this organization has as much truth as spontaneous life. All theories taught as absolutes, unless the light gets brighter as it frequently dose anymore.
If you don’t think their brainwashed, how are you viewed if you didn’t get the Jab? Or go back to meetings? Always motivated by fear or guilt, 2 of the most potent brainwashing mechanisms humanity ever used. Fear of judgment or reprisals from your peers or guilt by not following the FFDS which is directed by Jehovah, disappointment from Almighty God.

  3. I was a Jehovah’s Witness for 18 years. My mom and dad gave me the OK to stay or leave. I left and never looked back. Here I am, 42, married to a ‘worldly’ woman, and I still feel the repercussions of that decision. Numb to birthdays and holidays. Dating was always a challenge, much less explaining to my wife about my upbringing. Dealing with the bullying at school that accompanied with being a Witness. That kind of trauma does indeed lasts. Now I always question when my wife will leave due to my inexperience and skepticism. Because if it, my introverted side is very much a part of my life.

    1. I was raised in this church, but always knew without doubt it was wrong. My immediate family were all baptized, I was the only one who was not. My brother lost his life to suicide because of their teachings of disfellowship and disassociation. When he made a mistake he believed with all of his heart that God had abandoned him and that he was not worthy. What kind of religion does this to its people? Worse yet, my other sibling broke nearly every single rule but was never subjected to the horror they put my brother through. Because I’m not baptized, they are not required to shun me, but they have actually asked me numerous times why I have a problem with their religion. The fact that they cannot see what they’ve done and what they are doing is exactly what happens to people in a cult. It’s very difficult to watch what is happening to them and to those they’ve been converting, it’s sickening. Even though I am not part of that religion and never have been, being subjected to they’re teaching through having to attend church (5 meetings wk – 3 hours worth through the week 2 hours on Sundays and of course door to door on other days), there was no way to get through that unscathed. Sadly, the number one rule of any cult is to not read what or listen to anything contradictory because lies are always exposed when exposed to light.

      1. Yes the brainwashing is incredible. Nobody would imagine the level to which people can have an outside force take almost complete control of their brain, belief system, thought processes. Almost all rational thought gets switched off and everything is what the cult tells them to think.
Ask a question that is outside what they are told to think (or taught not to talk about) and you get something like “404 page not found”
Like a robot they just give a blank stare or maybe with a slight grin
It’s fascinating and frightening when a family member is a JW

      2. I don’t believe that would be why your brother tried to take away his own life. I once tried to commit suicide as well and I have also been raised JW. The reason why I tried to do was because I felt the entire world ignored me, including my family and that put me in such a depressive state that I tried to commit suicide. It had nothing to do with religion, but rather it just had to do with people in general. That’s just your excuse to justify his actions, but if you never asked him or didn’t ask him enough when he fell into depression as well(everyone who thinks about suicide falls into that state of mind) or you didn’t ask him enough, then that’s on you.

  4. I worked with a Jahovas witness who told me they like Mother Theresa’s work but not what she stands for. I told him she stands for goodness and kindness ,what don’t you like?

  5. Twin girls with JW parents/family graduated from h.s. 3 years ago. For the past 4 or 5 years they have been walking/running around the same block, with no deviation, often from morning until night. Nobody understands this. They work part time at a local shop. They could have spent all this time going to community college, getting a certificate or degree, and having a job (such as medical technician, etc.) to last them a lifetime. What is going on with them? Is it the parents??

  6. Hello to all,
I attended a few J. W. meetings that are held during the week but not a Sunday worship one.

Just before one of those meetings I was told that I should wear long trousers, a tie, and preferably a suit. When I attended those meetings.

I can’t see the logic of how I’m attired makes any difference to God or my wish to know more about a religious group with the possibility of being a member.

How do you reconcile this attitude by J. W. with 1 Samuel 16: 7?

    1. RIDICULOUS…GOD does not look at us that way. He only cares about the condition of our hearts. You want to join them, words of warning, be cautious. They are FULL Of all kinds of rules and regulations that make no sense whatsoever. Some are biblical, but MOST are not. They are crazy and make no sense. Study and know what you are getting into. It is listed in the book of cults. It’s very strict. Many of their members have committed suicide b/c of the strictness of that religion. They are programmed and brainwashed for the most part. Good luck.

      1. God does not care about rules and regulations, because all God cares about is our hearts. I agree that he should do his research. God does not care about which religion is best. He care about the heart. My only religion is love.

  7. Do Jehovah’s Witnesses use any sort of weaponry (usually on a person’s feet and/or lower legs) which can cause debilitation, amputations, etc. I often see people in local stores (Las Cruces, NM) seemingly rubbing their thumbs against finger joints to elicit pain and screams from others they are following. It is terrifying to see someone raise their paint leg to reveal what I can only describe as radiation burns, skin bubbling and peeling. It is truly terrifying. Thank you.

    1. I’m not sure what you are asking. Are you asking if Witnesses use some sort of device to cause a person pain? No, they don’t. There is no physical punishment associated with being a Witness. Everything with them is mental and mind games but no one is going to physically hurt anyone. In fact, they are very much pacifists.
Except for spankings. I’m not sure where their stance is on that at the moment but when I was growing up spankings were a-ok with this group. In fact, I was encouraged to spank my own children. I was very young when I was encouraged to get married and have children so I’m afraid to say I followed that advice for a while. Thankfully I came to my senses and realized that hitting children should never be acceptable. Probably the best thing I ever did for my children was to cut all ties with the Witnesses.

  8. I survived this cult too. My parents became witnesses when I was 6, my dad was disfellowshipped when I was around 12, so our whole family left “the truth”. They went back when I was 16 and my dad was reinstated. I never baptized. They tried to get my sister and I to go back, but we were almost combative over it. No way. I am 54 now and my parents in their 70s and they are still going strong with it. Some of the things they say around other people embarasses me, because everything they are taught is by the Society, and just a group of old men that don’t know shit about shit. My mom said that Mormons are Devil Worshippers and I had to correct her because Mormons are Mormons and Devil Worshippers are Satanists. But JW believe everything is Satanic. EVERYTHING. The brain washing I received was crazy. I couldn’t enter another church for years and it took me forever to relax around Christmas. Things are much better in my life now. Their teachings are so random and insane.

    1. I get ALL of that I really do, but they are right about Xmas being a pagan holiday. JESUS was NOT born on Dec. 25th. That was changed by the emperor Constantine. YOU can study about him. He changed that as well as the original Sabbath Saturday to the now popular Sunday the first day of the week named after the SUN GOD!!! They are right about some things but MOST they got it all wrong and it is listed in the book of cults. Good you never rejoined but Christmas is manmade, it’s pagan it a fake holiday, it’s NOT about JESUS or SANTA either one. It is about $$$$$$ and is a commercial holiday. The retailers already have the trees and decorations in the stores and it’s not even Halloween (another fake one). That is Satan’s birthday and about all things evil and Satanic. Be careful what you do and worship ONLY “GOD” and NOT man. Bible says MAN WILL FAIL YOU, BUT GOD WILL NEVER FAIL YOU!!! Blessings

    1. I was thinking the same thing. Masturbation is normal. Even animals do it. I am also very concerned about the sex abuse of children. That should not be accepted. Sex abuse of any kind should never be accepted, ever. Jws allow orgasims between a man and a woman for procreation but an organisms requires masturbation.

  9. My husband and I were both raised JW but on opposite sides of the world. A lot of this stuff on the list we experienced and more. They do use biblical scriptures as their reasoning even if it does make sense. They don’t believe in Jesus or preach from the new testament. They say Jesus was a profit like John the baptist. They are so much about money. If you don’t tithe at least 10% of what you’re worth then your out. They don’t pass a plate, they had a mail slot for checks. Now days it’s probably autopay. And if you’re in the hospital ready to kick, they’re right there waiting to get involved like vultures. I don’t fault people that want it but it’s not a good cult in my opinion. Any religion that wants your obedience and your money is for those who want to submit control.

    1. My major question is about the distribution of personal assets, including real estate, bank accounts, investment accounts from a deceased Jehovah Witness? Are the Jehovah Witnesses required to give everything to JW?? Or can they have a “Will or Estate be given to whomever they choose even if they are Not a JW??

  10. I’m heavily tattooed have served in the military dated all kinds of wonderful women, drank, smoked, and partied with some other worldly heathens . So I guess I’ll just let myself out?

  11. I’m a bible student, not sure why it says is Jehovah’s witnesses rules? Got curious about it and found this but it’s not their rules most of those, it’s what the Bible says. Whoever posted this needs to study, cmon I can’t believe people these days still talk about things without knowing about it at all. “The sun is yellow because we see it like so” “that’s the base of my knowledge”, it’s too much ignorance, that’s why everyone thinks this or that religion is bad, because instead of studying themselves they listen to others and blindly trust it

  12. No wonder why JW are so ignorant about science and history. They are not allowed to think for themselves, question the church teachings and above all read any books on science. Since science books and history books will show how wrong the bible is in these areas, since such books will explain were their fact come from, and the methods of how they got the facts and data. Also will point to other publications and website, that are not other around the world. Also most of those publications will be written by people who have gone to school to learn and become experts in those fields, as well as research and study that subject through out there lives.

  13. I hope you are knowing that of disfellowshipping is wrong? As all the elders should know about this for a long time yes the sun is yellow but am powerful to destroy this planet in one go, especially putting fires in certain parts of the world as the bible have already said would happen!

  14. This is outdated. A lot of those rules have been slightly changed since the release of the updated Bible. The facial hair and length of hair don’t really matter as much as they used to, for one. Any guy can have a beard, they just can’t look like Santa Claus is in there, and Even though I’m not an elder I have seen many teens who grow their facial hair leave just because they want everything their way. Everyone knows it’s difficult to have things go their way especially if your a teen.
There’s always a loophole to everything if you just look for it, but most people don’t. They rather comply or leave instead of looking for what they may be. There are options to everything, people just don’t want to look for them. Is it a bit two faced…sure, but if it’s a necessary thing to do, then do it.

  15. i love jehovahs witnesses and i love yahweh and give my heart to jehovah jah yeshua the messiah and as lord addonai for eternal life and eternal rest in heaven ;and all acceptance to el shaddais promises in yisrael and my home and city yerusalem . amen hallleluyah and let my peopl the children of israel live in eternal shalom and freedom. the lord yeshua alef tav rebuke you satan. i am in complete agreement wiht jehovahs witnesses praise God
